MULLACH - ABU  Means  "VICTORY  FROM  THE  MOUNTAINS"

This  was  the  battle  cry  for  the  DUNNE  clan  when  the  Clan  came  down  out  of  the  Slieb  Bloom  Mountains

                            to  fight  the  English  and  then  retreat  back  into  the  mountains  where  they  would  disappear  until  another

advantage  came to  beat the Brits soundly.

The Loft

The loft abuts the south wall of our attached three-car garage.

This minimizes exposure to frigid north winds during breeding season and results in significantly warmer loft temperatures.

   Another plus to this attached loft arrangement is my ability to check the birds frequently without regard to weather or temperature.

Youngsters also achieve significant benefit from this loft arrangement. 

Because the temperature is more stable and less cold, babies maintain their body temperature longer

 when parents leave the nest for food and water.

In addition to this protection, I close off the eave ventilation during the winter. 

This adds to a warmer loft and cuts down on cold air- flow throughout the loft. 

On the warm/sunny days several windows are opened to ventilate during the day, and closed in the evening

to avoid drafts and protect against predators.
